The vines are reaching for the stars, growing tall and leafy and things are starting to heat up all round! As we (or maybe some of us) start to emerge from the Spring Racing Carnival, one reality sets in: Christmas is now only 6 weeks away!

In December we will be offering our Celebration Menu which is 3 courses for $51. Guests can choose from 3 options in each course, including some traditional (and also not so traditional fare!) But please remember to make a booking as many dates are filling fast.

We will also be open on Mondays for lunch druing December and January and breakfast continues on Sunday mornings.

Gift Vouchers

If you have family or friends that are difficult to buy for, why not consider a gift voucher. You can purchase a gift voucher for any nominated dollar value from either Rustic Charm or Wild Cattle Creek, or choose one of the following.

  • Dinner, Bed & Breakfast:
    including chocolates, a bottle of Wild Cattle Creek wine, 2 course dinner (or Lunch) from $350 per couple.
  • Gazebo Dinner:
    $95 per person for your own candlelit table in the gazebo amongst the vines: 3 course dinner and a bottle of wine. Not only a great idea for a romantic surprise, but it can accommodate a table of up to 10 guests…what a unique idea for a special celebration with friends. Book early this year!!

Another great Christmas idea is a wine pack from Wild Cattle Creek Winery. To purchase a wine pack just enquire at the cellar door.

Wild Cattle Creek Wines

Rosé - is it a red, a white or the best of both worlds? It's as close to a white wine as a red gets and is a fabulous wine for summer afternoons and picnics, and to accompany pizza, pasta, freshwater fish and vegetables. It's a perfect summer red!

Rosé can be made from many red varieties, ours is made from Merlot, showing definite raspberry and berry flavours, it’s dry with suggestions of sweet fruit. Available for $18/bottle at the Cellar Door, or $45 in a 3-pack.

New Years Eve

Wed 31st Dec – New Years Eve Shared Feast. See in 2009 in the vineyard with a Yarra Valley feast of food, wine and music. $90 per person 4 courses of feasting! Our highly talented local band, Highly Strung will be playing in the New Year accompanied by a glass of bubbles! Book now. Deposit required.

Chef's Table Dinner #9 – Aussie BBQ

To celebrate Australia Day we will be having an Aussie BBQ for our next dinner on Friday January 23rd, 2009. Weather permitting this will be a casual Alfresco night under the stars with a band playing. $78 per person will include pre dinner canapes, bbq feast, dessert and cheese platters with matched wines and beers all accompanied by live music.

Daniel & Matt mmet renowned Chef Ferran Adria

Chef Ferran Adria at the Arts Centre

On October the 19th two of our kitchen staff (Daniel & Matt) were very privileged to listen to world renowned Chef Ferran Adria at the Arts Centre, talk about his kitchen techniques, his philosphies and passion for food and the industry. Ferran own the world famous restaurant elBulli, which only opens for 160 days each year (nice life..) and has 2,000,000 requests for 8,000 places each year! The team spend the rest of the year researching and creating the menu! While Rob missed out on this excursion, we did make sure he got a personally signed copy of the Very Big book! We would love to hear from any of our customers that have had the el Bulli experience.

Other exciting news around the restaurant:
Daniel is eagerly awaiting the birth of his first born in February, and Kate is emabarking on her Year 12 exams, after recently celebrating her 18th birthday. We wish them the very best of luck!


Recipé - Choc Mallow Slice

Our new dessert, the Chocolate Trio has been popular. The Chef's are always coming up with fantastic chocolate recipés, so we thought we could share one with you!

Ingredients

1 tbsp water 90 gm unsalted Butter
250 gm marshamallows (whote or pink) 200 gm chopped chocoalte
(we use Kennedy & Wilson courveture)
Shredded coconut  

Preparation:

  1. Line a lamington tray with greaseproof paper
  2. Over a very low heat, gently melt butter and water
  3. Add marshmallows, stiriring constantly until well combined and melted
  4. Add chocolate, stir briefly and then remove from heat
  5. Continue stirring until the chocoalte is melted and combined with other ingredients
  6. Spread into lamington tray and sprinkle with shredded coconut
  7. Allow to set in fridge for 2 hours.
